VHS Tape Based Recording Systems

In the early 1980’s the founder, Terry Mason, became aware of a survey which showed that only 1 in 4 intelligence recording missions was returning with usable recorded data. At that time the recording systems used for intelligence gathering were commercial “Instrumentation Recorders” and the manufacturers of these received the majority of their income from “Spares and Maintenance”, as the users would pay 4 times the purchase price, over the life of the equipment, for Service, Spares, and Support.

Reliability and Ease of Use was clearly not a priority, and Service Personnel were going into “Harms Way” to collect information only to find that the recording systems had failed to capture the signals the mission went to intercept.

To solve all these problems and issues a VHS Tape Based System was designed and manufactured and supplied by Avalon Electronics
